Natural Home Remedies For Thrush In Adults

Add Symptoms In Adults Oral thrush is an infection in the mouth that results from the proliferation of the yeast fungi, Candida Albicans. Although this is more common among infants, there are also some adults who are prone to this condition

due to excessive use of antibiotics which can kill the good bacteria in the body. These beneficial bacteria that naturally occur inside the body are the ones that control the overgrowth of the yeast fungi. When a person's immune system is low, he or she can also develop oral thrush.

Symptoms of thrush in adults include sensitive tongue, redness or inflammation on the lips and white patches on the tongue and inside the mouth. It is quite common for doctors to prescribe anti-fungal medications for thrush in adults, but there are also some people who have found relief in natural home remedies such as the following:

Some oils derived from natural products such as tea tree (or malaleuca), oregano, clove and lavender have anti-infection elements that can help relieve thrush in adults. Simply add a drop of any of these oils to your toothpaste before brushing. Lightly brush the tongue as well and swish the toothpaste and oil mixture around the mouth and then rinse.

You can also prepare a mouthwash solution by mixing a few drops of any of these oils with a glass of warm water. Gargle with this mouthwash solution two to three times a day. You can find tea tree and clove oil in most grocery stores, while the oregano and lavender oil may only be purchased from health or specialty food stores.

Boric acid is also considered one of the natural home remedies for thrush in adults. Mix one cup of water with only 1/4 teaspoon, and use this as a mouthwash. Since this is an acid, it should not be swallowed, because it may upset the stomach.

One of the best natural home remedies for thrush in adults is yogurt, which contains the probiotic lactobacillus bacteria, "good" bacteria that aids in digestion and in preventing the growth of the Candida
Albicans fungi. You can either eat the yogurt or use it as a paste that you can swish around your mouth. Remember to purchase only yogurt with live cultures, because those that have been heat pasteurized may no longer have the right amount of lactobacillus bacteria needed to control the yeast fungi.

Apple cider vinegar has long been recognized as one of the popular natural home remedies for thrush in adults. Simply add half a cup of water with one tablespoon of unfiltered, raw apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar also contains many vitamins and minerals that can improve the immune system and put a strong defense against yeast fungi. Raw apple cider vinegar is available on some big grocery stores.

These natural home remedies for thrush in adults are inexpensive and can provide relief from the discomfort caused by oral thrush. You may have to change your diet if you have persistent thrush. Try increasing your vegetable and fruits intake and minimizing consumption of foods rich in sugar and yeast, in order to prevent thrush from recurring.
